How to change a leaking faucet in 7 steps
Tweet9 years ago
The USGS reckon a leaking faucet can waste 11 gallons a day!
The main cause of leaky faucets is worn out washers! The washers inside of the faucet handles are rubber and tend to wear out quickly. This is a small part but make sure you have the correct size new one on hand preferably before you start otherwise you will need to take the old one to the store to match up the sizes. You will likely need at least one wrench and a cloth to absorb any small water spills. Replace them by:
1. Turning off the main water supply (often two small taps under the sink)
2. Unscrewing the leaky handle that controls the flow of water to the spout
3. Removing the old washer and drop in the new one.
4. Reattach the handle.
5. Slowly turn on the main water supply slowly.
6. Carefully look for any leaks from the faucet.
7. Turn the faucet handle and test the water flow.
This can be tricky and if you feel it’s not something you can do or you have trouble doing it give us a call or email we can fix it for you.
